Apocalyptic Rave: The Newest Genre of Music
One of the newest genres of music to grace our ears is ‘ Apocalyptic Rave’, a style of music that is definitely as unique as it’s name suggests. As genres of music become more specific as bands form and songs are released, it comes to the point where it becomes rather difficult to describe the music in mere words. ‘Apocalyptic Rave’ is simply something you have just got to hear. The beginning of the ‘Apocalyptic Rave‘ phenomenon was started by English band, You and What Army; a quartet of four lads, one of which (the front-man) is often described as a ‘psychopath in a labcoat’. The band has received considerable attention after being featured on Channel 4’s MobileAct Unsigned late 2007, and as a result, You and What Army were voted one of the top 11 unsigned bands in the United Kingdom. Combining ‘end of the world’ panic with euphoric synths, You and What Army have created a completely unique style of music and can often be seen making crowds rave, bounce and run around to every song they play at live shows. These live shows are a sight to behold; infectious energy backed by the atmosphere of lasers, strobes and smoke to create a truly epic experience for every person in the room. Insane, take-notice performances with flawlessly executed musicianship defines You and What Army as a band that demands recognition. According to Last.FM, other bands that almost (though not quite) fit the new ‘Apocalyptic Rave‘ genre (and aren’t worth the same special mention as You and What Army) include: Enter Shikari, Funeral For a Friend, Alexisonfire, Underoath, Silverstein, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, From Autumn to Ashes and From First to Last. |
